Armed with objectives, priorities and your change management programme it is time to kick start your organisation towards your energy efficiency goals, reducing your bills on the way.

Introduction to the Twelvetrees Decarbonisation Hub

What Is The Hub?

The Twelvetrees Decarbonisation Hub is a digital platform that helps organisations plan and manage their journey to net zero across their estates. It provides a central space to assess buildings carbon and energy performance, identify decarbonisation opportunities, and prioritise projects.

How Can It Benefit Your Business?

The Twelvetrees Decarbonisation Hub helps you stay compliant by aligning your actions with regulations like ISO 50001, SECR, and net zero targets. It centralises reporting data and performance metrics to simplify compliance documentation. This reduces risk and saves time during regulatory reviews.

Who Can Use The Hub?

The Twelvetrees Decarbonisation Hub is ideal for any organization aiming to streamline decarbonisation planning, reporting, and compliance can benefit from its capabilities. Facility and estate managers, sustainability teams, and energy consultants overseeing large property portfolios, will especially find the hub useful.

Overview

In 2021, Bolton Council committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2030. To support this, they partnered with Twelvetrees to gain a clearer understanding of energy use across part of their estate.

Challenge

The council lacked a consolidated view of energy consumption, emissions, and costs across its buildings. This limited their ability to identify priorities and build a targeted decarbonisation plan. Additionally, without entering the project phase, it was difficult to demonstrate the full potential of energy efficiency improvements.

Approach

The Twelvetrees Decarbonisation Hub ingested and analysed data from 396 buildings through its HUB platform, covering a diverse mix of asset types, sizes, and uses. The goal was to provide a high-level snapshot of estate performance and highlight key areas for intervention.

Key Insights

  • 79.1 million kWh total energy consumption

  • 18,000 tonnes COâ‚‚ emissions

  • 14 buildings accounted for 50% of total energy use

This revealed a strong concentration of energy demand within a small portion of the estate, highlighting clear opportunities for targeted action.

Impact

The platform rapidly transformed fragmented data into actionable insights, giving Bolton Council:

  • Clear visibility of high-consuming and high-cost assets

  • Improved understanding of energy intensity across the estate

  • A focused starting point for decarbonisation planning

This initial analysis laid the groundwork for a more strategic, project-led approach to achieving their 2030 net zero target.
